Viansa Tiger Drive Scholarship

An Inspiring Young Woman

Introducing a winner

Last week I introduced you to Karen, one of the two recipients of the 2016 Tiger Drive Scholarship. And now I’d like to introduce you to Viansa. Be prepared to be inspired by her loyalty, hard work, and commitment to her education.

In 2001 Viansa’s father passed away, leaving her to help her mother raise her mentally challenged brother. She has maintained a high GPA while working over forty hours a week to not only save money for college, but to help her mother with household expenses. She also finds time to volunteer at FUPI–an animal adoption agency. She enjoys playing the violin and dancing, and she previously participated in ROTC.

When asked how she felt about her responsibilities and caring for her brother, she said,

I delight in doing so. My experience in helping my brother has influenced my career choice as a pediatrician.

In June, Viansa accepted her high school diploma and she is excited to begin the next chapter of her life this fall at the university of her choice.

Congratulations, Viansa!
We are excited to follow your journey.

Later this summer, I hope to visit Nevada and plan to meet both Karen and Viansa in person. I can’t wait for the opportunity and I’ll be sure to take many pictures to share with you all.

In addition to the generous donors, the Tiger Drive Scholarship would not have been been possible without the support of the panel of judges who carefully reviewed each application and helped make this difficult decision. The facilitation by Ms. Chambers with the CHS counseling department was instrumental in communicating the opportunity to students, and I’m grateful to Ms. Campbell-Richards for her encouragement to reach out to CHS.

Until next time, thanks for joining me here today and for being you. If you have anything you’d like to share, don’t hesitate to contact me. I love to hear from you.
