Bow wow!!! I just received the amazing news that In the Doghouse: A Couple’s Breakup from Their Dog’s Point of View has won Best Book in the Fiction: Cross-Genre category of the 2019 Best Book Awards sponsored by American Book Fest.

Winning this cross-genre category is of great importance to me because as a book perfect for bookclubs, In the Doghouse isn’t only animal fiction, or women’s fiction, or romance, or upmarket fiction … it truly crosses all of these genres and has sparked multiple discussions with multiple angles. So I am thrilled. Skip and Lucy will be so doggone proud.

Thank you, American Book Fest for all that you do for authors and publishers. And thank you to the In the Doghouse Dog Squad who helped make In the Doghouse possible: Acknowledgments.

I’m excited to read my fellow finalists’ books. Congratulations!

For all the writers out there in the creative trenches, In the Doghouse is an Author Accelerator Story Genius baby. The course, inspired by Lisa Cron’s books Story Genius and Wired for Story, asked me to finish one sentence on the first day: “What if …” I ended my first lesson with “What if a dog could talk during the breakup of his people-parents?” In the Doghouse was born. I am forever grateful. If you want to write a book but don’t know where to begin, I highly recommend Story Genius and Author Accelerator’s Self Study Course.

Here’s the official press release from American Book Fest.

Thanks for being you.
